How I Questioned Peter Obi About Ongoing Agitations In South-East Region, Other Issues — Sheikh Gumi Reacts To Kaduna Meeting
.
Controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has revealed what he discussed with the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who visited him at his residence in Kaduna.
Gumi stated that he asked Obi, among other issues, how his government would pacify agitations from the South-East, North Central, South West, and North East if he was elected into power.
The tweet was attached with photos of himself, his running mate with Gumi and other Northerners in the midst of a crowd in Gumi’s residence.
Similarly, the Peter Obi Support Network tweeted with the same photos saying, “HE @PeterObi pays a courtesy visit with his VP Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed to Sheikh Gumi while visiting Kaduna.
“A lot of work is being done to reach out to as many people as possible in this drive to build a new Nigeria that will be beneficial to all of us.”
Reacting to the visit, some Twitter users described it as a smart move to unify Nigerians from different religious groups and ethnicity while some condemned it, describing Obi as a political beggar.
A Twitter user, @Qdpaper2 said, “Peter Obi the political beggar went to beg Bandit spokesman Gumi in Kaduna for Support. Well done Youth president.”
Another user, @MrOdanz, sarcastically said, “Sheikh Gumi has joined General Eneche, Doyin Okupe, TY Danjuma, IBB and the others who want to rescue Nigeria from the corrupt old order created by PDP and APC. Nigeria shall be great.”
Meanwhile, Gumi told Daily Trust in an interview that despite the fact that they were meeting for the first time in their life, he asked the LP presidential hopeful a few questions.
He said, “He (Obi) came on a courtesy call even though I was meeting him for the first time face-to-face, and so I appreciated his visit.
“I asked him very essential questions, but I told him he didn’t have to give me straight answers right away since I knew he was on his way to Arewa House where he would explain it better to the larger society to understand.
“I asked him about his stand on restructuring because Nigeria has been going through a restructuring from 1960 to date and how he could empower an unskilled nation.
“I also asked him how he could pacify agitations from the South-East, North Central, South West, and North East. Again, I told him there are foreign interests in this country that are part of the polarisation of our politics. So how is he going to tackle it?
“He also agreed with me that truly there is foreign interest in this country, and then I wished him well,” he said.
Gumi then encouraged all presidential contenders to run issue-based campaigns and warned them not to say anything that would further disunity the country.
